Policy of Attending CAR Events

After reading the responses from families following last year's Edaville event, we felt it is important to remind individuals of our policy on attending CAR events.   Additionally, we want to explain in more detail about the structure of our events and the changes that have been made to our policy.

  1. CAR events are only open to those individuals diagnosed with ASD and their families who live within our service region. Some events/ classes have age restrictions.  The Annual Parent Retreat is open to individuals who live outside of our service region.
  2. We provide services to over 4,000 families in our region. Because many of our events are sensory-friendly or we only have a limited number of tickets (such as the case in Edaville), we must put a cap on the number of individuals who can attend.
  3. We host an event each month and budget our funding to do so. We understand some events are popular due to the cost it would be for a family to attend on their own.  Our funding is limited.  We do our best to host events throughout our region.
  4. We understand that you may be disappointed after being put on a waitlist to attend an event. Unfortunately, due to the number of potential participants, these lists are unavoidable.  We appreciate your understanding that many families wish to attend, but in certain situations that is impossible.
  5. If you receive a confirmation email to attend an event/sensory program and then you are a no-show without a call or email to advise us within two weeks from the date of the event, you are unable to register for any of our events for a six-month period. Once those six months have passed, you will be able to register for future family events, and sensory and social programs.  Of course, we understand that there are extenuating circumstances that may prohibit someone from being able to notify us prior to or on the day of an event.  We do ask that you contact us as soon as possible if that is the case.
  6. Events will be open on our website for one week from the announcement. In the case where we receive a larger number of requests to attend an event and in light of the current situation where events are limited regarding the number of people that can attend, we will limit the number of events people attend back to back.  We also will remove the names of anyone who previously missed an event without notification to CAR (Please see #5) and then all remaining names will be chosen via a lottery system.  We will not use the first come first served criteria for our events.
