SUMMARY:A Conversation About...The Caregiver 2 Caregiver Respite Network
DESCRIPTION:A Conversation About the Caregiver 2 Caregiver Respite Network: A community of caregiving rooted in shared experience  \nWe hope you join us to learn more about this amazing program and to have your questions answered.   \nWith Speakers Valeryia Pederson from the Federation and Elizabeth Bostic from DPH \nDeadline to register Saturday September 28th  \nThe Caregiver to Caregiver (C2C) Respite Network was developed by a parent of a child with a disability. C2C is funded by American Rescue Plan Act funds though a special state respite initiative and is a program of the Federation for Children with Special Needs in MA. The network is composed of families of children and youth with disabilities and specialized support needs ages 0-26 who agree to both give and receive respite.   \nThe webinar presenters will discuss the extensive planning process they undertook for implementation\, the essential components of the respite opportunity based on reciprocity\, and the match process that combines best practices from Parent to Parent USA\, feedback from professional partners\, as well as wishes and concerns expressed by caregivers. They will also share how they are working to engage diverse families and caregivers. \n>>CLICK HERE TO REGISTER<< \nVisit the website to learn more and watch the welcome video available in six languages. \nAbout the speakers: Valeryia finds her purpose in building supportive and accepting communities. Whether she is organizing a local parent support group or planning and implementing an innovative respite program\, her focus is on bringing culturally and linguistically affirming services to children and youth with disabilities and their families. She is committed to tirelessly highlighting and celebrating the talent and a multitude of contributions made daily by marginalized communities\, especially those who identify as neurodivergent\, disabled and immigrant. She is a proud parent of two neurodivergent children. Her academic background includes health education\, pedagogy and linguistics. Valeryia joined the Federation for Children with Special Needs during the pandemic and her current role is Project Director for the Caregiver to Caregiver Respite Network. \nElizabeth (Beth) Bostic is the Assistant Director for Division for Children and Youth with Special Health Needs at the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and a LEND Faculty Instructor and Fellow at the Eunice Kennedy Shriver Center at UMASS Medical School. She is also the proud parent and humble servant of King James\, a medically complex young man.  Beth was a Project Manager for a training and consulting organization before starting her own Special Education Advocacy practice more than 15 years ago. She is a trusted and frequently requested facilitator of workshops and stakeholder meetings across the Commonwealth\, known for her ability to facilitate candid conversations about special education\, caregiver needs\, disability rights and healthcare disparities among underrepresented and disenfranchised populations.

SUMMARY:The Gathering for Grandparents Lunch - Common Eating and Feeding Challenges in ASD
DESCRIPTION:Held each Spring and Fall\, Community Autism Resources’ Grandparents’ Lunch offers grandparents the opportunity to hear professionals in the autism field share information on important topics related to ASD. More importantly it offers them the chance to meet and chat with others who understand the unique joys and challenges that they as grandparents share. \nBy popular demand\, the topic for the Spring Lunch is: Common Eating and Feeding Challenges in ASD \nOur speakers will be Tracy L. Lancellotta\, OTA and Kimberly Mulcahy MS\, CCC-SLP \nTalk Description: Nutrition is a necessity for a child’s growth and wellbeing. For children on the Autism spectrum eating can be especially challenging\, causing frustration and concern for many families and caregivers. There are several factors that can cause these difficulties such as poor motor control\, muscle tone\, sensory challenges\, rigidity or behavioral issues\, food allergies and even communication. \nTracy and Kimberly will share basic knowledge of what these challenges look like and how to best support your grandchildren with ASD during mealtimes. This will be a fun and engaging conversation with real life examples. Participants will walk away with a better understanding of eating and feeding challenges and how you can support your grandchild in their nutrition journey. \nOur luncheon will be: A salad buffet with grilled steak\, soup and chef’s choice of dessert! \nSpace is limited. \nREGISTRATION IS CLOSED….Thank you! \n  \nSchedule for the day \n9:45 – 10:15 AM Check-in & talk with your seatmates \n10:20 – 11:50 Presentation with Q&A \n12:00 – 1:15 Buffet Luncheon\, giveaways and meet and chat with our speaker! \n  \nAbout the Speakers: \nTracy L. SUMMARY:A Conversation About: Driving with Autism With Andrew Arboe
DESCRIPTION:Join Community Autism Resources for…A Conversation About: Driving with Autism With Andrew Arboe \n \nTransportation has various modes like buses and trains\, while cars are used by the majority. Having transportation improves overall quality of life and independence. Andrew goes over his reason for driving because of how necessary a license was for his college degree. Realizing the limitations it would bring\, Andrew decided to pursue driving\, despite the challenges of driver training and state resources. What helped was going to a driving school where Andrew got confidence from their controlled road lessons. Afterwards\, Andrew found places to use for completing road practice and scheduling his road test. The test came and went\, and he obtained his license. It inspired Andrew to advocate for more public discussion for driving and the advocacy gave him a sense of empowerment. He became empowered to fulfill his employment plans and worked in various schools and nonprofits due to his license. Time will be allotted for questions! \nREGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED….THANK YOU! \nAbout the speaker: Andrew is a self-advocate with a professional work background consisting of public school\, private school\, nonprofits\, and online programs. Andrew is also certified through the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards’ Autism Certification. His current workplaces include FOCUS Center for Autism\, Anderson Center for Autism\, and the Children Hospital of Philadelphia. Andrew is also a public speaker known for talking throughout New England about autism and his personal experiences. Andrew uses the power of storytelling with his personal experiences to provide insights on his specialty topics on autism including transportation and his famous driving topic\, employment\, special education and transition to adulthood. Finally\, Andrew graduated from Manchester Community College with an associate degree as a Disability Specialist. Andrew is attending Charter Oak State College for a bachelor’s degree in psychology.
